Achieving my first degree black belt in taekwondo is something I am very proud of, something I have spent many years working on, and something I can model for my daughter. We started our journey as a family 6 years ago, but my husband couldn't keep up with classes with his work travel and dropped it at the high green belt level. I was determined that my daughter and I would make it to black belt level. It is great for everyone to learn to defend themselves, but particularly important for women and girls. It has taken a long time for us as we are a very busy family, and I had a couple of surgeries and injuries to recuperate from over the years. However, Grand Master Atoun always worked with me at my level to ensure that I continued safely, but most importantly that I continued. Grand Master Atoun has fostered an environment filled with respect and positive reinforcement that I find comfortable to work in, and that I want my daughter to learn in. This is very helpful to me as a bigger and older person to be in a place of acceptance and motivation. There is always a teacher willing to help learn and encourage you, and most importantly help you work through the frustrating parts that snag you. This positive environment is so important, as it not only helps me teach my daughter that we can accept where we are right now, but still work to improve ourselves. Now that I have achieved my first degree black belt, and my daughter is now a red belt, I am confident that not only will she achieve her black belt too, but that I will earn my second degree black belt. I am a working mom showing my daughter what it looks like to do positive things for yourself, how to accept your body for what it is and what it can do while working to improve, and how to achieve goals you set for yourself. The whole staff is AMAZING and Grand master Atoun himself is personally involved with all the students. USTA is great for both children and adults, and especially for families. It gives us a great, safe, and kid-friendly place to go out and have some fun while learning important life lessons as well as getting some exercise and meeting new people. The instructors are all very friendly and helpful and the classes are always fun and engaging! USTA teaches self-defense for all ages, including a full training program of Japanese Jujitsu self-defense, Arnis, TaeKwonDo, & Kenjitsue (Japanese Samurai Sword). Grand Master Atuon is very focused on each and every student in his academy to the point that remembers every single student's names and their parents as well. Very nice and friendly instructors and staff members. I highly recommend it.

The journey was long and hard, but becoming a 2nd Dan black belt was worth it. On November 21, 2016, I received my 1st Dan in TKD. I had tons of fun learning the techniques of TKD. All members of this building/program inside and out are one of the most greatest friends and people I ever had. Thank you for all who help provide the most learning and fun. I recommend this program for people to either have fun or learn the interesting life of TKD. However, if you don't have enough money, I believe that anything is possible in the near future. Can't say enough about USTA, But thank you for the long long journey.
